Delicious Soft Serve Ice Cream and Soy Products at Soypresso

Soypresso is a small chain of stores that specializes in a variety of soy milk products. They have a whole range of soy milk flavours (like black tea, matcha, taro, and cucumber, to name but a few), soy puddings, tofu, soy milk yogurt, and even soy milk ice cream. Their two Taipei branches are on either end of Yongkang Street, making it the perfect place to indulge in a spot of dessert after overeating at Jin Ji Yuan or Yongkang Beef Noodle.

Originally from Yilan, Soypresso has evolved over the years to be the Insta-worthy, hip brand that it is today, but they actually have over 40 years of experience making soy products. Everything on offer is hand made, traditional, non-GMO, and completely vegan to boot. Soypresso has been recommended to us over and over again by friends determined to cure us of our lack of appreciation for soy milk, and we finally decided to give it a try after seeing multiple posts about their soft serve ice cream on Instagram.

Seeing as it was a blazing hot day, the first thing we tried was the tofu soft ice cream ($60), their original flavour of soft serve. As we mentioned, we’re not the biggest soy milk fans, so this one didn’t hit home in the way we had hoped. Soy milk is the dominant flavour here, and while we didn’t dislike it, we’d be lying if we said we loved it. We appreciated the sweetness and creaminess of the ice cream, and appreciated the way we didn’t feel weighed down after finishing it, but we personally wouldn’t order this again. However, we later brought someone who does love soymilk, and they were a big fan. Your call.

Next, we went for the black sesame tofu soft ice cream ($70), which we liked much better than the first. It tasted strongly of black sesame but wasn’t too sweet, and we wolfed it down as fast as we could. If you’re not sure whether you like the taste of soy milk, or if you’re hesitating between the two flavours, we urge you to try this one — it was delicious.

Last, we tried some strawberry soy drinking yoghurt ($60), which was absolutely divine.  We could barely taste the soy milk, and it was a delicious, fresh, and creamy drink that we thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend to all!

All in all, we were glad that we finally got to try Soypresso out. We can’t really say that we’re soy milk converts — we got a chance to try a few sips of a friend’s, and it was admittedly more enjoyable here than anywhere else we’ve tried — but the ice cream and yoghurt were tasty, and their branding is spot on. This is a really neat spot to take visitors and soy connoisseurs alike or to stop by after stuffing your face on Yongkang Street.

What’s the vibe?

Cool little joint(s) on Yongkang Street specializing in everything soy. It’s pretty famous with the Instagram crowd and young, fashionable tourists.

Worth it?

Yes! It’s reasonably priced and despite not being fans of soy milk, we enjoyed most of what we had.

Would you go back?

This is more of a place we would bring soy lovers or out-of-towners to, but yes we would.
