Get Artsy Fartsy at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park
Songshan Cultural Park, located just north of Sun Yat-Sen Memorial and City Hall, is one of the biggest creative art spaces in Taipei alongside Huashan 1914 Creative Park. Formerly a tobacco factory established during the Japanese occupation, the complex has been repurposed into a spacious park that now houses exhibition halls, event spaces, and of course the Eslite Mall packed full of shops — some of which offer art workshops that you can participate in. The park is open from 9am – 6pm daily and hosts frequent outdoor and indoor events. Check their website for more information!
Songshan Cultural Park is home to the Taiwan Design Museum, which showcases modern designs by both local and international artists. You can visit some really cool exhibits; check their website for more information on current and upcoming exhibits.
The Eslite mall is huge and offers some fantastic shopping opportunities. This is a really great place to stock up on gifts, souvenirs, or creative clothing and accessories that you may not find in other shopping malls.
Whether you’re in the market for Taiwanese cosmetics, snacks, tea, homeware, or jewellery, this mall is a great place to start looking. Expect prices to be on the higher side, but also expect to find some unique and even custom-made goods. Check out some of what’s available:
You can also find nice cafes and several businesses that let you get in touch with your artistic side. There’s one for jewellery-making, and another where you can paint and drink wine (bottom left).
