Get Your Grunge on at The F*cking Place

Yes, that’s the real name — minus the asterisk.

Tucked away next to Technology Building MRT, this unpretentious dive bar is popular with creative types and students for its alternative atmosphere and relatively cheap drinks. It’s a good hangout spot for catching up with friends in a comfortable setting. It’s also open late, appealing to the after-hours crowd looking for somewhere to chill after partying.

Fucking Place is located on the second floor, up an inconspicuous and sketchy-looking staircase. Don’t worry, you’ll be fine.

The bar draws more of an artsy alternative crowd, plus students looking for deals on drinks. Indeed, prices are generally on the cheaper side as far as foreigner-friendly bars go, with beers ranging from NT$150 – NT$200 and cocktails in the NT$200s.

The DJ spins everything from indie rock to hip hop to retro hits. But no matter the music, the vibe is laid-back and relaxed, with several couches for lounging.

The seating is somewhat limited — when we visited on a Friday night around midnight, we had to join a table that was occupied by another group. Thankfully they didn’t mind!

Even with stools at the bar, booths in the back, and couches for groups, Fucking Place is on the smaller side and the seats fill up relatively quickly. With more of a grungy after-hours vibe, it’s actually busiest later in the night — drinks keep pouring until 4am on weekdays and 5am on weekends.

Fucking Place isn’t the most social bar — everyone tends to stay in their own seats at their own tables. Keep in mind it’s better to go with a group because you won’t necessarily meet people.

Still, the bar’s graffitied walls and phallic imagery offer some appeal. Overall, Fucking Place isn’t anything to rave about, but it’s a solid dive bar good for unwinding with friends.

What’s the vibe?

Laid-back drinking spot for an artsy, creative crowd. It’s got several couches for relaxing and the DJ spins everything from indie rock to hip hop to retro hits. It’s not necessarily the most social bar — people tend to stay in their seats at their own tables.

Worth it?

Sure. Drinks are generally on the cheaper side — it just depends what kind of bar you’re looking for. We suggest going with a group since it’s not the best place for socializing.

Would you go back?

Maybe. It’s more of a fallback place to hang out with friends, but who says we won’t find ourselves there again at the end of a messy night?
